The Final Adventure

On Friday, we went to Nashville Children's Theatre and saw Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure.  Many of you commented that it was creepy or scary. What about the play made it that way? Even if you weren't scared, there were intense moments. How did they create that effect? Was it the story or the staging? Write at least three sentences explaining your ideas. This is due on Wednesday.

  1. It was awesome but a little on the creepy side.I mean, it was exciting, It was a little boring at the beginning.I was so tierd I was about to fall to sleep when out of the blue it was "BAM!" It made me jump out of my seat,it was so exciting.Holmes is like my favorite show, Castle. He is always figuring out the problem and the twists in the story.

  2. The actors in Sherlock Holmes were very good actors and I think that they acted it out very well, and the scenery and music helped, too. Also, the story was kinda creepy too, because it had a lot of moments where there wa lots of suspense.I think that they created the suspense by being very dramatic and lively. I liked the play.

  9. Personally, I thought it was amazing. The actors were magnificent in their parts. I know I can't do that without m-mumb-mumbling. I kept on thinking, how cool would it be if someone with such skills of observation were real. The play had such suspense. When the fog which was supposed to be poisonous gas came out, I felt like my throat was swelling up and I jumped when I heard the shot.

  12. I thought that the play was really good! I wish I could go see it again. My favorite part was when it got really dramatic and dark! I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard the gun shot. In the first few minutes, it didn't make that much sense to me.

  13. The part that was scary to me was when everything went dark.Pitch black. Then everyone on stage went crazy and I heard two gunshots. The first one came abruptly, but on the second one I heard a, "Fire!" Then came another fire. I've been to a shooting range before, so I could stand the sound. It shocked me!

The story and staging was quite most of effect. However, the guns fired blanks so we could be safe. The way they staged the story really caused the suspense.

  14. I didn't think it was scary but at some parts in the play they got pretty intense.I think some of the things that made it that way it was were the stage the lighting and especially the actors but most of all the main play. Also for the effect part of the play there was a moment of darkness and there was a bunch of shooting of fake guns and yelling but once the light were back on every thing had changed. Because there were two people that were just sitting down and when the lights came back on the two men were on the other side of the room tied up to a pole.So I think the play was pretty good and I hope to see another one soon.

  15. I thought that the play was magnificent. One reason why was the way the actors sounded. It gave it more feelings and made it a lot more intense in some moments. Also the props were extravagent. I liked the way the two clock parts turned into bookshelves and the lights because it made the stage look brighter. My favorite part was when Sherlock Holmes acted like an old man. Lastly,I thought it was fantastic how the man reading the newspaper turned out to be Sherlock Holmes. That meant he wasn't dead. I personally I thought the play was spectacular and I would like to watch or read another one of Sherlock Holmes's great adventures.

  16. I honestly loved the play and I would love too see it again. But the thing that I noticed was that at the end when Watson found out that Holmes was gone at the waterfall when he was on the stairs there was a stunt double probably because he was also reading the paper and was on the stairs. Then the gunshots in the dark was probably a mass of effect. They did it too long that the workers had enough time too tie them up.
And that's how i feel about the play

  21. I thought it was a good play. I think it was the staging and their intense actions and their voices that made the play so intense. The scene with the guns was very intense to me. I think they did a good job on making me feel like I was in the play. When they did the gun shots and the screaming I was literally about to scream "Don't shoot him!" The play was a great play and I want to see it again.

  23. It was a little rough in the first part. But when the couple got married it got exciting.I would think the play involves creepy, funny, and mysterious things during the play. But my favorite part was when Homes was on the cliff and Dr.Moriarty pushed him off and they thought he was dead. But at the very end Watson saw him reading the newspaper. And he was alive! How did he do it?It was a very good play with a delightful twist on it.

  38. It was nice in some ways Most of the fifth grade was scared when the (fake) gun shots were fired and complained about the smell of sulfer in the air.The end was very delightful I find it was most intreaging for how Dr.Watson has found Mr.Holmes and the cottage was nice. But all in all it was a good play good show Sir Arther Conan Doyle

  39. I thought the fog effect was cool and added to the suspense. I also thought turning the lights out to make it pitch black during the gun shots was pretty cool because it caused a bunch of confusion. The most scary part for me was when one of the bad guys was threatening with a knife. At the end it was not scary, just very sad because Holmes died.

  40. It was kinda creepy, scary, and funny all at the same time. I was the most frightened when the bad guy with the black suit, and the red rose, held up a knife to the guy with the puppet and the opera singer. The best part was when Sherlock Holmes kept on putting on disguises!

  41. I loved the play! I love how Sherlock Holmes knew things when he was asked. I thought the back grounds and props were very realistic. The characters were amazing. They had good facial exasperation.

I really want to go see the play again.

  45. I though the play was very entertaining. I thought that the most intense part was when Holmes fought Moreatti and his minions in the small building where supposedly there was flammable gas coming in through a pipeline. Although, my most favorite part was when Holmes fought Moreatti on the cliff and faked his death.

  47. I thought the most intense part was when Moriarty stabbed the cabinet with the knife and then the lights turned off at once. The other part that was intense was when Dr Holmes and others were in the alley and then it got foggy and guns were being fired. I loved it when Holmes faked his death but Watson found him.

  51. For me I actually didn't think it was scaryb but some parts were really cool, like when Holmes was in that room and the lights went out with all th BOOM,BANG,CRASH,(SCREAM). Then the lights came on and the money, Holmes, and the girl(sorry I forgot her name)were gone and the two or three men were tied to a pole in just a matter of seconds was SO cool! I also loved the Drama at the end where they couldn't find Holmes and then he appeared on the cliff but they didn't seem to notice. But, what really bugged me was that when Holmes was behind the news-paper and Dr. Watson was all like "Holmes is that you?" then at the credit they ended the mystery by him throwing down the news-paper and saying his name. UGH how that bugged me but all-in-all it was a fantastic play. I LOVED IT!!!!!!

  52. Well, I didn't get scared,but it was totally interesting!There was alot of onamotapias in it. On one part, they made a gun sound, and screaming. I think they put alot of detail in it. There actors were especially good. They had alot of emotion. The actors stayed in character too. To be honest, I would cracked up laughing with all the screaming and akwardness! At the end, it turned out much better than I expected it to be!:}

  53. There was a lot of things in this play that would put you on your tip-toes but I am going to list three. First off the play was pretty scary when the whole theater got dark and gunshots were fired. Second thing, the acting was superb and very well done. Lastly the play had very good music to go with it when they were acting.

  54. I liked when there was smoke that just came out from the sides because it looked spooky. The actors acted like it was really happening and it was serious. The play was great and I bet many people would love to see it. Sherlock Holmes had some really weird and cool customs that he used to disguise himself when he went to the other family and places.

  55. I thought the play was amazing but a little creepy. The first thing was when the bad guy(forgot name) and mininoms and Holmes, Watson, and the girl (forgot name) in the scene where there was a gun shot and the darknessand how the bad guys were tied up and stuff. I wonder how they did that? The second thing is i really didnt understand what they where saying. It was kinda scary when Moreitae wwas talking. but I loved the play. that is what I thought of the play .

  56. I thought the play was mostly dramatic. Every time something spooky happens there might be a little twist in the middle (like every mystery). The part I liked the most was the ending when Watson said "Holmes!?".
