The Adventure of the Speckled Band

Now that we have read the story and watched the movie, I'd like to know how you felt about them. Did you like one of them better? What differences did you notice? Please use at least three complete sentences with enough details that we can understand which parts you are describing.  This assignment is due on Friday, August 31.

  2. I liked the book better than the movie. the plot in the book and the movie were the same but in the movie they added more scenes. I wasn`t impressed with the acting in the movie and I like to picture the scenes in my head. sherlock holmes didn`t look like I pictured him at all. I pictured sherlock holmes like what dr roylott looked like in the movie

  3. Sherlock Holmes was a very focused in the movie. When I was watching the movie, my thoughts we're not the same when I read the book. Watson was focused in the movie, but in the book he wasn't that focused.

  4. i liked the book better because it had more details, and we read a chapter and wanted to know what happened next and we got to solve the mystery for ourselves, unlike the movie where we already knew what happened. I noticed a lot of differences, like how the snake killed Dr. Roylott in the movie, it was around the neck, but in the book, it was around the head. Also, the movie looked like it was made in the 1950's, but the book felt likr present day.

  6. Personally I liked the book we read about it better than the movie we watched. I liked the book better because it was easier to understand. In the movie the time period was extremely different than what I pictured in the book.

  7. I liked the movie better because it was more interesting than the book. I think they were different because the book seemed like it would have more cartoon in it than the movie. It was also different because the movie looked like it happened longer ago than the book.

  9. I liked the book because I think it better parts.I liked when at night the snake killed Dr.Roylott.Dr.Roylott was kinda mean how he trained the snake to go down on there bed.In the movie I liked the flashback of how Julia Stoner died.

  10. I thought the book and the movie were different because, even some little details were different like, the snake killed the step father on it head in the book, but in the movie the snake killed him on his neck. Also I liked the book better because you get the chance to picture it in your mind first. Another reason is the book is always better than the book. so my point is the book and the movie are never the same.:)

  11. i think the book was better because you get to imagine what every thing looks like the the house for example i was thinking there rooms would have less things in them because it did not describe it like that well maybe it did but i imagined it different the good thing about reading the book and then watching the movie is that you can dig out all the little thing that were different like in the book the snake was still and around his neck and in the movie it was moving and around his head ,also in the book Helen followed Mr.Holmes directions and locked her self in the room when he came home but in the movie she didn't and she was sewing in the living room when he came home. those are some of the little thing that get you and make the story more interesting .

  12. The movie was very interesting. The book was amazing, though I personaly liked the movie better. The snake was pretty cool.I though the snake was going to strike Dr.Holmes in the movie. The most different thing about both of them is the snake. The book was so different, because the part at the very begining the guy wasn't chasing the vagabonds. The movie had a lot more scenes.I liked the book better

  13. I liked the movie a lot because it was exciting to see it played by real people. But the book had very good detail. I thought they were both great!

  14. I liked both of them the book and the movie. The difference that I notice between the movie and the book are that I had a totally different image in my head about the scene of the book then I did of the movie. I felt like it was an interesting mystery to solve

  16. I like the book better because it had more details than the movie. I noticed a lot of differences in the movie and in the book, like how in the movie the snake was wrapped around Dr.Royllots neck, but in the book it was around his head. Also in the movie it seemed like the movie was made a long time ago, unlike the book. I also noticed that in the movie Watson was more focused than in the book.

  17. I liked the book because it had you on the edge of my seat and it had a good story line. There was a few differences in the movie though like the baboon did not dash out of the bushes it just stood there. Also, the snke was around Dr. Rollot's neck instead of his head.

  18. I liked the book it had more details than the movie. The movie was diffrent because the snake was wraped around the neck and not the head. In the movie it looked the 18's. The movie had alot of flashback. In the movie the cane looked like a stick.

  19. I liked the book better because it had a lot more detail and was a great book. The first difference I saw was that the snake was around Dr. Royllot's neck not his head; second was that the book said nothing about the slaves putting meat out for the cheetah; then there's the baboon... it just stood there and walked away and it didn't run off.

  20. i did like the book but i thoght it was to vilent with the snake but i did like the part when holmes light the match and herd the snake come in through the vent like holmes thought it would.i saw that when the snake bit Dr.Rollot on the neck like it did in the book

  21. I thought it was really good because I love mysteries. I liked the movie better because, you can see and compare what you thought things actually looked like. I noticed the snake was around his neck and not his head.

  22. I found both the movie and the book very interesting. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the movie. The creators of the movie had much more imagination than a normal team. I noticed a part in the movie that was different from the book. 'I fear,' said Watson, 'that you may be indirectly to blame for Dr. Roylott's death.'
'It is not something that will weigh heavily over my shoulders,' says Sherlock. This is what was said in the movie. In the book, it was the opposite speakers. Also, like everyone else, I did notice the snake around Dr. Roylott's neck. And so, these are my observations on the differences between the book and the movie.

A little fun fact: I also noticed that the actress for Helen Stoner was also the actress who played Ms. Honey in Matilda.

  23. My favorite would have to be the movie. I realized that Dr.Grimesby Roylott's swamp adder was on his neck, not his head. I liked the movie because i can tell what happened in a visual form.

  24. I love mysteries so this book and movie was great but personly i like the the book better because it showed more details 1.I noticed that the snake was wrapped around Dr.Roylots neck like it had bitten him and choked him but in the book the snake was wraped around his head. the second one i notice was that their was a extra scence in the movie where when Dr.Roylot came home from the town that night when homes and waston were hiding and was talking to helen about that she talked to homes and what was werid was that in the book homes said that when Rylot came home lock herself up in julia room and don't see him but in the movie she was in the living room or i don't know but it was unlocked and Dr.roylot came in. 3.that in the movie after dr.roylot was dead and homes and waston and helen were in the train and waston said "I fear that u are indriencty responpile for Dr.roylot death. and homes said "that is not weight on my shoulders" and it was the opisste in the book. and i know i will be reading sherlock mysteries because i want to know which mysteries he did not slove

  25. 26. I liked the story and the movie, but I did notice some differences. I notced in the movie that the snake was rapped around Dr. Roylott's neck instead of his head.
The second thing I noticed was different was, at the very beginning, they showed one of the vagabons running away from a guy who looked like a cook.
The last thing I noticed was that the movie looked really different then what I pictured in my head! Even though there were some differences, I still enjoyed it!

  27. I liked the book because it was more exciting and it made me keep on wondering what would happen next. I liked the movie a little less because I already knew what was going to happen.

  28. I both loved the book and the movie! I noticed that in the begining of the book it said that Dr.Roylott had a top hat when he went to talk to sherlock and watson and in the movie he didn't.I also noticed that after Dr.Roylott was bitten the snake was around his neck and not his head.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Also the differences I saw were so of the things in the book were not in the movie.

  30. I liked the book better than the movie because the book had more details.I noticed that the snake was around Dr. Roylott's neck in the movie and it was around his head in the book. The movie was so different than the picture I had in my head. I also think that the book started out freaky and when it ended it think Dr. Roylott got what he was asking for.

  31. One diffrenes is the snake was on his neck not his head. The same is Waston had a pistel and Holmes had a cane. The other diffens is the girl did not go to her room as Mr.Roylott got home because she was not allowed to see her step father.

    ReplyDelete
  32. For the most part there went many diffences except for at the begining of the movie the Dr. got in a fight with a man witch did not happen in the book. Also the snake was around he's neck and not he's head. And last in the movie the Dr. was very mean to hellen but in the book,he a lot more plesent.

  33. For me, I liked the book much better. I thought the book was more descriptive. Some differences I noticed were that the snake was around his neck instead of his head.

  34. I liked the book better than the movie because I knew what was going to happen in the movie ,and I didn't know what going to happen in the book. I liked them still because some of the details are the same and different. Some of the details are different like the snake was around his neck instead of his head.

  37. I like the book better than the movie because we read it before and I didn't really know what was going to happen. They were both somewhat different. One difference was that in the in the movie the snake was wrapped around his neck instead of his head.

  38. I thought that the book was good but honestly I thought the movie was different of course I think everybody knows that in the movie Dr. Roylott was not wearing a top hat. Also a swamp adder is supposed to kill instantly but when it bit Julia she died about 2 minutes later...but Dr. Roylott just died instantly.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think the stories are different because in the movie their are real people. In the book the people are not real. I thought that Julian would die faster..... but she didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They are the same because they both talk about Dr. Roylott, Julian, and Helen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I liked the book better. I noticed that the snake was on his neck not his head. Dr. Roylott wasn't wearing a big black top hat. Julia died so slow but Dr. Roylott died so quick. Also in the moive was harder to under stand what the where saying becaus of their British aencent.

  42. I think I liked the book better because it gave you more facts than the movie. Also the book sounded like it was more mondern day.

  43. I like the book better than the movie.I noticed that the snake was around his neck not his head and Dr.Roylott was not wearing a top hat.but i liked the movie too.

  44. I liked the book more because I could imagine what was going on.There were few differences between book and the movie. The snake was already moving but in the book, the snake moved after Sherlock Holmes saw it.Also, the book didn't mentioned about Dr.Roylott's land and the man who was pushed into the water at the beginning.

  45. In the movie wen they looked at the outside and Wotsen looked at the ground and found the footprent they diden say inything

    ReplyDelete
  46. I liked the movie more because it helped me picture the story better. Therewere alot of diffrenses like in the movie there were foot prints. In the book the snake was rapped around his head and the book took longer then the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I liked the book better because the story was a surprise. One difference I noticed was the death of Julia. Julia died really slow and Dr. Roylott died very fast. I really thought that Julia would have died faster like the doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I liked the book better because I didn't know what was going to happen. One thing I noticed was that in the movie, the band was around Dr. Roylot's neck but in the book, it was around his head.

  49. I liked the book better. It was more interesting because I didn't know what was going to happen. One of the differences is that Dr. Roylott had the snake around his neck instead of his head. Also, in the book Watson had a pistol but in the movie he didn't.

I liked the book better because it described a little more and you were never sure if your theory was right. In the book, the waiting seemed to take longer, when Holmes and Watson were in Julia's room waiting for the snake. In the movie, Holmes and Dr. Roylott seemed to be straining to bend the poker, but in the book, they did it with ease. Also, in the book Stoke Moran seemed to be described as a bit smaller than in the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really didn't have a favorite, I liked them both. I liked the book because it gave more description than the movie. My favorite part in the book was Helen Stoner came to seek help from Holmes and Watson. I liked the movie because I got to see the characters and what they looked like. My favorite part in the movie was when Julia Stoner died, even though that part was really sad.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The book is different than the movie because the snake is around it's neck in movie in book snake is around it's head. In the book there is a faint whistle in the movie there is not a faint whistle. In the book the Julia die's in the sister's arms in the movie Julia die's in Dr.Roylott's arms.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would have to say I liked the movie better because when Dr. Grimsby Roylott died the swamp adder was around his neck not his head. I think someone would die a lot more easy if they got bitten on their neck.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the book better. For me the book gives a littel more details and the movie was a little dramatic. In the movie insted of staing in a hotel they staied in the tool shed. In the book they said Helen herd a faint wisel, in the movie they did not here it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I liked the movie better, because in the movie instead of imagining of what was happening you got to see the event.I mostly wanted to see what a Speckled Band looked like.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I like the book better than the movie because the book says more details about a lot of things. The snake was around Dr.Royllot's neck in the movie but in the book the snake was around his forehead. When you picture the book it is a lot different from the movie and nowadays.
